Héctor Pineda-Cupa is a fourth-year graduate student in Hispanic Studies at Washington University in St. Louis. He holds a degree in Literary Studies and an M.A. in History from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Bogotá, Colombia). He is a Fellow at the John Carter Brown Library (Providence, RI) and the author of Estos son los tiempos de callar: sor Josefa de Castillo y una historia del silencio en el Nuevo Reino de Granada (1671–1742) (Universidad del Cauca, 2024).

His research examines female conventual life in the Nuevo Reino de Granada (present-day Colombia) during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries; practices of copying, translation, and rewriting within the colonial Spanish American corpus; and more-than-human life in the colonial Neogranadine archive of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.

His other publications include the article “'La mas dolorida i avergonsada de todas las mugeres': los Ofrecimientos para el Santo Rosario de sor Juana Inés de la Cruz en el devocionario de sor Josefa de Castillo (1671-1742)”, published in Estudios de Literatura Colombiana, no. 54 (2024); the co-authored article “Beatas y porosidades en el Nuevo Reino de Granada: la «Vida ilustre» de Antonia de Cabañas (1670) escrita por Diego Solano,” written along side Dr. Pilar Espitia Durán and published in Hipogrifo. Revista de literatura y cultura del Siglo de Oro, vol. 12, no. 2 (2024); and the book chapter “El Cuaderno de Enciso: un productor de presencias inasibles,” which appeared in Cuaderno de Enciso (ca. 1701): Manuscritos de sor Francisca Josefa del Castillo. Homenaje a Darío Achury Valenzuela, edited by Carmen Millán de Benavides (Instituto Caro y Cuervo, 2023).

He was a finalist for the 2025 Dean's Award for Graduate Research Excellence and the recipient of the Eva Sichel Prize for the best essay in Spanish, awarded by the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures.
