Hispanic Film Festival: We Shall Not Be Moved

With a unique take on the revenge thriller genre, We Shall Not Be Moved masterfully blends drama, satire, and Mexican dark comedy elements to create a compelling narrative that subverts expectations. We Shall Not Be Moved tells the story of Socorro, a mature lawyer who lives with an obsession to identify the soldiers who killed her brother in 1968 during the Tlatelolco massacre. After decades of waiting, she receives the missing clue to find the culprit, leading her to conjure an absurd revenge plan that puts her assets, family, and even her own life at risk.

The 2026 Hispanic Film Festival, possible thanks to the Spanish Film Club Grant from Pragda and the Spanish Ministry of Culture, brings together seven highly awarded films from Spain, Panama-Colombia, Brazil, Peru, Mexico, and Guatemala. These films serve as vehicles for timely discussions that, although situated in Latin America and the Iberic Peninsula, extend to realities experienced beyond these geographies. Additionally, their cinematographic relevance and media/medium experimentation promote urgent discussions of creativity, mediation, and technological innovation. As a whole, this festival seeks to promote general themes of interrogating existing power structures and promoting an alternative lens through which to view hegemonic inequities.
