Francophone Film Festival: Homelessly in Love

Homelessly in Love is the first feature-length documentary of director and producer duo Lalita Clozel and Ariane Mohseni-Sadjadi. Over nearly five years, they followed three women experiencing homelessness in the United States, exploring issues including poverty, domestic violence, motherhood, and rebuilding one’s life through the lens of love and intimate relationships. The film received the Audience Award at the Escales Documentaires in La Rochelle and the Best Documentary Feature award at the Dallas Movie Fest, and was also selected for MyFirstDoc in Tunis and DOK Leipzig. [enter] The directing documentarians are both Villa Albertine residents in Chicago from September through November 2026, where they are developing a new documentary project on deindustrialization in France and the United States. The RLL department is proud to present the 2026 Francophone Film Festival. Uniting every film is a throughline that explores the theme of global health through a decolonial lens. Through stories of migration, displacement, conflict, motherhood, mental health, and social connections, the festival invites audiences to reflect on the ways health is shaped by culture, place, and community across Francophone countries. Bringing cinema into conversation with questions of global health and social justice, the series invites audiences to rethink what care means in an interconnected world.
